Lymphedema Management and Treatment
The target audience for this course includes PT, PTA, OT, COTA. This seminar provides instruction in the anatomy and physiology of the lymphatic system, the pathophysiology of lymphedema, and the management and treatment of upper and lower extremity lymphedema. Participants will be instructed in the components of Complete Decongestive Therapy (CDT), including manual lymph drainage, compression bandaging, skin care, and exercise. In addition, contraindicaitons to treatment, circumferential measurements, complications of lymphedema, compression garments, and documentation and billing will also be disucssed. Come prepared for lab. |

Low Vision Evaluation and Treatment
Low vision in the elderly impacts the ability to perform basic activities of daily living, funcitonal mobility, self-feeding, socialization, communicaiton and leisure activities. This course will provide an overview of low vision rehabilitation services including the anatomy of the eye, diagnoses and disease processes affecting the eye and definitions of key terminology. Evaluation tools will be demonstrated as well as skilled interventions, compensatory and adaptive strategies and problem solving techniques. Case examples and group activities will be utilized to apply knowledge to actual practice. Positional Release for the Lower Quadrant
Positional Release Techniques are very gentle manual techniques which can assist in normalizing movement patterns. Because of their gentle nautre, these techniques can be used as a component of treatment with most of our patients. this course is designed to teach the principles of positional release with an emphasis on strain counter-strain and a focus on the Lower Quadrant. Clinicians will learn when positional release is indicated and when it is contraindicated. We will also review documentation and billing as it relates to the provision of positional release techniques. We will have several opportunities to practice the techniques during hands on lab practice, which makes up a large portion of this course. Driving and Older Adults - A Roadmap for Safety
Community mobility, specifically driving, is a normal activity of life for the majority of adults. Continued driving for older adults is critical for self-esteem, independence and self-worth. Because safe driving is a complex task incorporating visual-perceptual, sensory, motor and cognitive skills, many older adults who show gradual declines in these areas find themselves unsafe and therefore no longer able to drive. This course will provide therapists and facility staff with tools and resources to establish a driver safety program, evaluate function as it relates to driving, provide education to residents and families and suggest alternative transportation options.
